Editor's Review of Comodo Firewall Pro
ZoneAlarm may be extremely popular, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best firewall you can find.
Many people believe that Comodo Firewall Pro takes that prize, largely because it was rated as the top firewall by the independent testing site Matousec.
Matousec found that it offered the highest level of "anti-leak" protection--in essence, a measurement of a firewall's effectiveness. Comodo offers true two-way firewall protection, is extremely configurable, and unlike most other firewalls, gives you a great view into your system and Internet connection as well. It's free, as well.
If you use this firewall, you'll have to spend a bit of time training it. Each time an application tries to access the Internet, you get a popup that asks whether you want to allow the application through. If you'd like to cut down on the training time and annoyances, use the program's Clean PC mode. You'll be able to have Comodo scan your PC for applications and register them as safe. That way, you won't see as many alerts
There are other nice extras as well, including a nifty install mode, which shuts off the firewall for 15 minutes, which allows you to install a new application without getting inundated by alerts.
